In 1953, the CIA began its illegal human experimentation program, known as MK-ULTRA, focusing on mind control. Among several MK-ULTRA projects, in 1963, Project REGERE was launched: a secret initiative dedicated to the study and application of the Regerefungaceae fungus family.

These organisms had the ability to attach themselves to the brain, integrating into the neural structure to grant anomalous abilities to the host. Records indicate that various specimens of this family were tested on different patients, each manifesting distinct results and side effects.

Among several patients, Patient 425 received the Motum telekineticus, a fungus discovered in the Amazon that exhibited peculiar behavior in the wild: it was common to observe insects and small animals being attracted and pulled toward the fungus to be consumed. It is not known for certain how this organism reacted in Patient 425; official records indicate death, but was death the true outcome?
